First Year Experience

University of Michigan students tell us that making friends and finding community is one of the most rewarding and important aspects of their first year on campus.

The Community Matters Cohort Program provides a space for undergraduate students to meet people also looking to meet people. Program participants are matched with a pair of upperclassmen facilitators and a small group of other students who are interested in finding community. This community is designed to support students navigate community building in multiple environments. Students will connect through cohort social events and conversations about cultivating support networks during our time at U-M.

Virtual and in-person cohort options are available. Cohorts run from the week of September 13 until the week of November 8. Please select a cohort that aligns with your schedule and availability. You will receive a recurring calendar invitation for future cohort meetings - this sign up reflects only the first meeting, but cohorts meet weekly! Cohorts will not meet the week of Fall Break (week of October 18).
